Türkiyeand India exchanged ambassadors for hundreds of years in history but formal diplomatic relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of India was established in 1947. The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi itself was inaugurated on 8 July 1948.

The Turkish Embassy is composed of the Political Office, Office of the Military Attaché, Office of the Commercial Counsellor, Office of the Economic Counsellor, Office of the Culture and Tourism Counsellor and the Consular Office. It is located in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave in New Delhi.

The Embassy is supported by the Turkish Consulates General in Mumbai and Hyderabad,and Honorary Consulate General inKathmandu all operating under its wing.

The Embassy’s Consular Office renders consular services to the resident Turkish citizens in Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the states at the North-east region, whereas the Turkish Consulate General in Hyderabadrender services to the resident Turkish citizens in Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Chattishgarh States; and the Turkish Consulate General in Mumbai render services to the resident Turkish citizens in Maharastra,Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala andTamil Nadu States as well as the Union Territory of Pondicherry. The Embassy and theConsulates in Mumbai and Hyderabadalso serve the Indian, Nepalese and the other third country citizens in their respective regions.
